Ducks' in the 1970s & 80's

Ducks Paddle was bought by George and Helen Welsh in 1972 for £8,500.
Here is an extract from George's diary on the viewing day 20th January 1972.

The family had 3 children and we were lucky to meet 2 of them in June of this year. Melanie is the eldest and now lives in Illinois with her husband Mike. Martin is the middle son and still lives in the south west of the U.K. They were able to tell us lots about their time living here including the snow up to the bedroom windows in the winter of 1977! The old building opposite before it's alterations was indeed a cattle shed/barn with a hayloft in the rafters which was accessed by ladder. Remembering this is before the extension was added in 1990 they used the kitchen as a living room. Melanie's bedroom was in the lounge and Martin had the middle bedroom. The kitchen and bathroom (very cold!) were in the lean-to on the rear of the cottage.  Most interesting to me though is that both the inglenook fireplaces were bricked up and Helen was the one who demolished the infill to expose the beauties we have today.
